IMU celebrates Founding Day Launches new logo & renovated website

The Indian Maritime University (IMU), established as a Central University to impart world class maritime-related education, celebrated its founding day (IMU Day) on Nov. 14 at its headquarter in Chennai.

Union Minster of Shipping G K Vasan was the Chief Guest on the occasion. To mark the pompous occasion, Mr. Vasan, in the presence of Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, Chancellor, IMU, Prof. G. Raghuram, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. P. Vijayan, first Vice- Chancellor, and now Chennai Campus Director, and Mr. M. Anand, Registrar, launched the new logo and redesigned IMU website.

Chancellor Krishnamurthy released IMU Voyage (an in-house newsletter) and placement brochure -2012.

After releasing the logo and website, the Minister addressed the gathering. In his speech, Mr. Vasan lauded the efforts of previous Shipping Minister T R Baalu for taking concrete steps to set up IMU.

Lauding IMU’s first Vice Chancellor Vijayan for bringing up the institution from scratch, the Minister expressed confidence that under the leadership of eminent academician Prof. G. Raghuram (IMU’s new Vice-Chancellor), the university would become a trendsetter in attracting all those who show keen interest in the fast growing maritime industry in the country.

IMU was established on Nov. 14, 2008 as a Central University by integrating seven maritime academic institutions, namely National Maritime Academy, Chennai, T S Chanakya, Mumbai, Lal Bahadur College of Advanced Maritime Studies and Research, Mumbai, Marine Engineering Research Institute, Mumbai, Marine Engineering Research Institute, Kolkatta, Indian Institute of Port Management, Kolkatta and National Ship Design & Research Centre, Vishakhapatnam. IMU’s headquarter is located in Chennai on East Coast Road.
