Haldia Port has caught the attention of the Ministry

The recent disturbing events at Haldia Port have drawn the attention of the Government and the retrenched employees of Haldia Bulk Terminal have also approached the Labour Court and the Tribunal seeking intervention and justice. Brewing problems must be attended to, the earlier, the better for the welfare of the people and of the state in general. A three-member team from the Ministry of Shipping visited the Haldia Port on Friday to conduct an “internal inquiry” for information related to the recent impasse at the Haldia which has affected the port commercially and the workers personally. From an official from Kolkata Port Trust who preferred to be anonymous, the details of the visiting team are as follows: Mr. S.Tripathy, Deputy Secretary (ST), Ministry of Shipping; Mr. Anuj Agrawal, an expert of the Ministry in public-private-partnership and Mr. A. Janardhana Rao, Managing Director of Indian Ports Association. According to a Kolkata Port Trust official, the Ministry has ordered an inquiry into the law and order situation at Haldia dock Complex. The visiting team of experts would investigate into the impasse at the complex “that led to ABG-LDA run contractor Haldia Bulk Terminal to exit from Haldia”, he added.
