CONCOR’s refrigerated train service from Hyderabad to Mumbai

Refrigerated container train of the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has started operation from Hyderabad to Mumbai port. This marks the start of regular reefer container train operations from Hyderabad to different ports in the country.

In order to develop reefer movement from here, CONCOR has put in place infrastructure such as plug-in points at its Inland Container Depot at Sanathnagar and high-capacity diesel generator sets in the train to ensure uninterrupted power supply during transit to Mumbai.

Mr. V. Kalyana Rama, Chief General Manager, CONCOR, said the number of refrigerated containers will be increased and the current weekly service will be expanded to bi-weekly or more depending on the demand. He said the service also expects to attract temperature-sensitive cargo such as fruits and meat products.

South Central Railway (SCR) officials expressed their happiness over launching its first ever refrigerated container train (REEFER) from Sanathnagar container depot. The first container train carried seven refrigerated containers containing high value and temperature sensitive pharmaceutical products to Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Mumbai.

It was flagged of by Mr. Sushant Kumar Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division, SCR. It is stated in a Press release that Container Corporation of India Limited in association with SCR will be operating the REEFER.

Addressing on the occasion, Mr. Mishra said refrigerated container freight services from Hyderabad would help in boosting export of pharmaceutical products from Hyderabad. The container corporation is free to fix its own fare and it is more economical to move refrigerated goods by rail compared to road transport, he added.
