According to a Press release, the vessel MV Hyundai Future that berthed at CITPL is one of the four vessels deployed on the ACS service operated by the Korean line Hyundai Merchant Marine. The maiden voyage incidentally called at the CITPL terminal on the auspicious day of Diwali (The Festival of Lights), which is celebrated all over the country with pomp and fervour.
ACS is a mainline service to the Far East covering the port rotation of Chennai – Singapore – Pusan – Ulsan – Shanghai – Yantian – West Port Klang – Singapore – Chennai.
Vessel operations on MV Hyundai Future were completed within 24 hours at a vessel productivity rate of 76 moves per hour.
PSA CITPL has proactively procured additional state-of-the-art equipment in early 2012 to cater to the growing trade demands and will continue to offer excellent customer service thereby promoting export and import trade, the terminal operator said in the Press release.
With the additional equipment, CITPL now has seven Super Post Panamax Quay Cranes (all twin lifts) and 18 Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) Cranes and its handling capacity has been doubled to 1.1 million TEUs.
Besides, CITPL is the only terminal in Chennai to have an on-dock rail siding within its premises thereby offering seamless rail service to its customers. CITPL is also increasing the number of reefer plugs (used for refrigerated containers) in the terminal and will be constructing additional stacking yard to meet the business demands.
It may be noted here that PSA CITPL currently has five mainline services to the Far East, two Colombo services and two Coastal services calling at the terminal.

CITPL crossed a milestone by handling the one millionth container on Nov. 17 since commencement of terminal operations. The one millionth container was handled on vessel MV Tiger Bridge which operates on the Chennai – Colombo shuttle service managed by Bengal Tiger Lines (BTL).
