Visitors hold road rook outside Chennai Port

Having Navy warships in a nearby port with an opportunity to have at least a glimpse into them with wonder and awe is not an everyday occurrence. Indeed, when the people come across media reports that the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet Rear Admiral Mr. Ajith Kumar had invited public to have a look at the Naval warships, it is but natural that people throng at the port to see the warships; they would have least thought of security issues linked with the warships . When families had come from places like Bangalore, Mysore, Trichy and Arakonam, for this rare visit and when they were denied entry, disappointment pitched up, driving them to an act like road roko. But those who denied entry to them were right. The security officers said that when about 3000 persons wanting to visit the warships, the Central Industrial Security Forces had to stop them for security reasons and “they were not informed about such an event”. Even the police also said that “the information about the warships being open for viewing to the public was not true”. The tense situation was discreetly handled and the police pacified the agitated people on the road and they were taken in buses to have a look at the warships at a distance without allowing them, naturally, to get down from the buses. Tension was defused to the relief of all.
