Earlier, the Haldia Bulk Terminals (HBT) Private Limited had said that the law and order situation at Haldia Dock Complet had worsened , pointing out the alleged attack by some unidentified people on its workers when they reported for duty. But Kolkata Port Trust had denied the charge. The relationship between KoPT and HBT appears to be soured, moving towards a direct confrontation with each other. Mr. Manish Jain, KoPT Chairman, observed with reference to the allegation by HBT that the law and order situation had gone down at the “ port and its surroundings”, that “ barring some stray incidents, the authorities have not seen any major law and order problem at the Haldia Complex”. He also said that Haldia had lost 25,000 tonnes of cargo in the past one month on account of conflict of interests and complication arising out of it. The Chairman also said that the KoPT would convene a meeting of the stakeholders on October 3 to discuss a draft solution and to find a solution “to this very complex problem”. He also made it clear that the agreement between HBT and KoPT did not have any clause providing any minimum or maximum “guaranteed tonnage” to the handler.
