A.P. Moeller-Maersk A\S (MAERSKB) is the world’s largest container line; it said that on account of dull slump in demands, it would take off 19 ships from the Asia-Europe trade lanes . It will cancel once for all AE5 service which has eight vessels on service and AE9 which has 11 vessels. With these steps of removing 19 vessels, the total reduction capacity works out to 21% this year. According to Mr. Peter Sand, chief analyst at Danish Shipping Association BIMCO, “Asia-Europe capacity is too great after the significant reduction in demand over the summer and companies are having to adjust much faster than they are accustomed to”. Maersk’s chief trade and marketing officer Mr. Vincent Clerc said that the company would adjust to declining demand “without reducing our market position”. Each vessel on AE5 service has a capacity of 6,500 standard 20-foot containers of TEUs and the ships on AE9 route can carry 8,000 TEUs.
