A meeting of the
Board of Directors of Vizhinjam International Seaports Limited (VISL) is to be held on 26 September 2012 to be chaired by the
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The important agenda will be to discuss steps to be taken to obtain the environmental clearance for the
Vizhinjam Port Project,
worth INR 4010 crore. The VISL Board will go into the details of the
Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts as well as the
tenders that will have to be floated. A top Government official said:
“Our first priority now is to win the clearance. Once the clearance is
gained, there will be more numbers of bidders to take up the role of the
operator, with better offers than the sole offer from Welspun we
received last time. Further, the Government’s commitment in the matter
of building this port is also fully evident now and that is sure to
generate a new enthusiasm among prospective bidders”. For the project,
the landlord model will be followed; it means that it will be the
responsibility of the VISL to create the basic infrastructure. The State
Government owns VISL.
