Shipping Minister appeals to anti-nuke activists not to stop VOC port operations

The anti-nuclear power plant protesters had announced that they would stop ship movements to the VOC port on September 22. The Shipping Minister,Mr.G.K.Vasan had appealed to them to desist from such an activity of disturbing the movements of the ships to the VOC port. In fact, there is such an insufficient power supply in Tamil Nadu that the very growth of the state is affected very much. He said: “It is unfortunate that the protesters do not understand that this type of protest would affect trade”.  The common people also know that such protests are not in the interests of the nation and they may not look upon the protesters with a positive attitude.  Moreover, the Centre has taken all the efforts to protect the welfare of the fishermen. He added: “I am sure that the State Government would make all efforts to contain this type of protest, which affects the overall growth of the country in general and Tamil Nadu in particular”. The Minister has appealed to the protesters to refrain from stopping ship movements in VOC port, thus stalling all port-related activity. The unprecedented power shut down for about 12 to 14 hours a day  in Tamil Nadu generally might make the common people of Tamil Nadu to agree with the Shipping Minister.
