Kodungallur, a famous municipality in the Thrissur district of Kerala, is a great national and international tourist attraction and it is said to have been a very popular international harbor in India in 17th century with trade links with Syria and Asia Minor in particular. About 40 km north of Kochi, the jetty there has about five meter depth. There is a proposal to build and develop an exclusive jetty which can receive containers from Gujarat and Maharashtra, moving to the other locations in Kerala, according to the Directorate of Ports in Kerala. The jetty once developed will be good enough for the coastal trade. Some minor ports have been identified for development through private investments and this is one among them. The investment for developing this jetty will be about INR 30 crore.
