
Maritime Gateway, a leading maritime journal in association with Visakhapatnam Port Trust, conducted a two-day East Coast Maritime Business Summit in the port city. The Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development inaugurated the summit and Mr.S.Hazara , Chairman and MD of Shipping Corporation of India, spoke on the concluding day, stressing the need for a national integrated logistics policy to develop maritime infrastructure. Such an integrated logistics policy, he said, would certainly facilitate framing proper policy interventions and a framework to encourage investments in maritime sector. He also stressed upon the need to encourage eco-friendly inland water transport. Mr. Anil Yendluri, Krishnapatnam Port CEO said that PPP (Public-Private-Partnership) mode of investments must be encouraged since the Government alone would not be able to build the required massive infrastructure. Mr.Santosh K Mohapatra referred to the deep draft facility, a great one indeed, that the ports on the East Coast have. Mr.Krishna B Kotak, J.M.Baxi Group Chairman said that apart from the number of ports , the types of ports that are coming up “will ultimately make all the difference”. Mr.K.Mohandas, Former Union Shipping Secretary, Mr.Dinesh Gautama, Advisor to Container Shipping Line Association co-ordinated the summit. The Samsara Group CEO Mr. Mukesh Oza and APL India MD Mr. Anil Radhakrishnan were also among the speakers. The summit was attended by over 300 delegates.
