Visakhapatnam Port Trust starts constructing coal-berth

The concession agreement for the project of constructing a fully mechanized coal berth at East Quay-1A was signed last February 3, 2012, by SEW Vizag Coal Terminal and Visakhapatnam Port Trust for a period of 30 years. At the cost of INR 390 crore under Public-Private-Partnership model, the berth is to be constructed on Build, Finance,Operate and Transfer(BFOT) basis. The traditional bhoomi pooja for the project was performed recently. Mr. A. P. V. N. Sarma, Mr. S. Anil Kumar, Directors , SEW Vizag Coal Terminal and some of its senior officials, Mr. C. Pavan, Mr. Sai Prasad, Vice-Presidents, were present for this pooja. Built to the world standards, the berth will be eco-friendly with a dedicate green belt and will have the best safety measures such as fire protection system, and water and sludge management system. Once it becomes operational, it will have fully mechanized ship loaders, stacker reclaimers, wagon tippler stations and conveyor systems that can handle 7.36 million tonnes of coal per year.
