
It is said the world’s first Rolls Royce series Platform Supply Vessel was delivered by the Cochin Shipyard to the Shipping Corporation of India, the vessel being named SCI Nalanda. The high-end diesel electric vessel, classed under the Rules and Regulations of DNV and the Indian Register of Shipping, is registered under the Indian flag with Mumbai as the home port. Apart from the highest levels of environmental compliance, the ship maintains its noise and vibrations level at the lowest. The other features of the ship are the bridge systems fulfilling very stringent ergonomic and safety needs, inert stainless steel tanks for carrying low flash liquids and external fire fighting equipment. Above all, it is so equipped that it meets UKOOA type C requirements making it fit to operate for emergency rescue and recovery functions. It is first of the two such vessels being built by the Cochin Shipyard on the UT 755 CD design of Rolls Royce for the Shipping Corporation of India. The ship was handed over in the presence of Mr.S.Hazara, Chairman of SCI and of Mr.K.Subramanian, Chairman of CSL. The event took place on August 14.
