
The Goa State Pollution Control Board has sent a notice to the Mormugao accusing it of failing to control air pollution. The Port Trust has been asked by the GSPCB to produce all relevant records relating to the handling of coal and dusty cargo by the port. The coal handled in berths numbers 10 and 11 has resulted in severe air pollution Vasco town. Environmental degradation has affected the health of the local residents. On inspection, the Board said that “due to inadequate pollution control measures being implemented by the port authorities, the concentration levels of particles are found exceeding the permissible limits on various occasions during the course of ambient air quality monitoring”. GSPCB member secretary said that the port has not followed the directives sent from the Pollution Control Board in failing to install a continuous ambient air quality monitoring station.
